A night like no other

In present day, Navratri is a national celebration participated in by devout Indians all over the world. The traditional dance form of Garba coupled with Dandiya is the most awaited event during Navratri.

We’re happy the campus resonated with joy and happiness. -Sahil Krishnadas, General Secretary- S.P.I.T. Student Council

With such jubilant mood and fervor around the festival, amidst all the grueling and hectic academic schedule, the students of SPIT were treated to a ‘Garba Night’, a night filled with fun, dance and music on Wednesday, the 17th of October 2018. The Cultural Committee of the Student Council was tasked with organizing the event, which was surely a massive hit. Before the start of the event, there was a high tea arranged for the staff members.

It gave us immense pleasure to watch all gear up to the Garba tunes! Cheers to the S.P.I.T.-ians who dressed up in all colors of happiness and made the night memorable! -Shrawani Bawage, Cultural Secretary- S.P.I.T. Student Council

After a normal day of exhausting lectures, as dusk set-in, students of all branches and all years assembled in the Sardar Patel Sabhagriha in the S.P.I.T. Quadrangle teeming with anticipation and excitement, draped in breathtaking traditional attire.  At 5:30 pm, the speakers blasted the first tunes for the night, commanding the students to forget everything about their monotonous lives and get lost in the world of festivity. The lights were dimmed to ensure a thrilling atmosphere.

The DJ was ready with a repertoire of famous Bollywood songs which are essential to any Garba Celebration. The likes of “Udi Udi Jaaye” , “Nagada Sang Dhol Baaje” and other remixes of classic songs made sure that everyone in the audience was on their feet at all times. Drawing from their mouth, the very familiar phrase: “once more!”

People formed circles to dance to the fast-paced music. Everyone soaked in the moment together, irrespective of whether they were seniors or first year students. During the dance, everyone let go of all their worries and just danced to the pulsating and celebratory beats. The traditional dress-up further enhanced the event. The slight drizzle towards the end of the event added to the fun and lightened up the atmosphere.

The widest smiles shone on the faces of the final year students who made sure to make the most of the night. Priyanka Lubal (BE Computers) and Arth Patel (BE Computers) won the title of Best Dressed. Along with them, Best Dancer was awarded to Pradhuman Singh (SE EXTC) and Urvi Bhanushali (TE IT).
