Fun Events – Matrix 2k17 (Part 1)

“We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun”

–Winnie the Pooh.

Along with enjoyment, Matrix 2k17 provided students with memories that were worth a lifetime. Living up to their name, the Fun Events were exhilarating as well as challenging. Enlisted below are the sportful events:

Robosoccer

True to the ‘Retrofuture’ theme, Robosoccer gave an interesting twist to soccer- it was played by two little Wall-E style bots controlled by the participants! The robots, designed to look like an Argentinian and a Brazilian, were made by the members of the organizing team themselves. Participants battled it out against each other in a 3-minute knockout round in order to advance. Finally, Amar Manwar, from T.E. Electronics, emerged victorious after winning against the runner-up- Kanji Arethiya from Shri Bhagubhai Mafatlal Polytechnic College, in a very tense and close showdown.

Ad-Zorbing

Sometimes, the best enjoyment comes from the simplest of actions, may it be running around bumping into your friends and watching them tumble around in a crazy ball. Every fest needs a sporty event and Matrix had that, just with a bouncy twist! “It was a thrilling experience, a lot of fun to deal with the problems that we faced along the way and satisfying to see people enjoy themselves”, said  Vaibhav Bagri, from S.E. Computers, one of the organizers.

Human Foosball

Here, teams of five each went head to head against each other to score the most points. With players able to move just laterally without leaving their areas, there was a tough struggle for the ball. The event saw more than 200 participants battle it out. The winning team was from S.E. Computers- Poojan, Mohit, Aditya, Siddhesh, and Aman. Kevin Doshi (S.E. Computers), an event organizer said, “The incessant rains posed a challenge, but we were able to turn things around and make the event a success.”

Chaotic House

Contestants found themselves in a race against time in the Chaotic House. The participants, in teams of two, were given a series of puzzles to solve. Using their presence of mind, they had to navigate through the challenges as fast as possible. Abhishek and Pulin from F.E. Computers were victorious amidst the chaos on the first day of the fest, while Sahil (F.E. IT) and Taksh (F.E. Computers) triumphed on the second. “The best feeling for an organizer is the positive feedback. Participants enjoyed the event,” said Kunal Mandalya (S.E. Computers), one of the organizers.

Laser Tag

Everyone has had that one phase in their childhood when they were obsessed with toy guns. Laser Tag brought back all those memories by letting the participants play with their friends in teams of four. Set up in the darkness of the Gymkhana, with neon vests and laser toy guns, it was eight minutes of pure unadulterated fun with just running around, shooting and ducking to avoid getting shot. “We experienced the hardships of organizing while getting sponsors but cherished each registration”, said Jnanesh Bhat from S.E. IT, an event organizer.

This spells the end for part 1 of the Fun events. Wait out for the next part and relive the moments, as the events based on skill and strategy unfold.
