New Year Ideas

Posted on December 26, 2017 By Team SPark

Is it that time of the year again when you’re pointlessly scrolling down your Facebook newsfeed and replying to “Happy new year” messages (and now GIFs), when everyone around seems a little too excited and all you can do is watch?

Well, we understand how difficult new years and building resolutions can be and we’re here to help. We figured its easier for you to not do things because let’s be honest, we are masters at procrastinating and lazy is a lifestyle; so, we thought of giving you a list of things you don’t have to do the coming year.

Avoid retrospection:

The first step that we suggest you take is ahead. Stop revisiting your past even if you’re looking for mistakes. Did you realize that you’ve forgotten your wallet while you’re out for dinner or have kept someone waiting for hours just because you lost track of time?  Don’t be bothered about making mistakes or repeating them and hurting yourself in the process. As strong as it is, your mind is also fragile; do not let yesterday’s mistakes demonize your present. Forget your past like you forgot your best friend’s birthday, you were forgiven 2 hours later anyway.

Do not give up on your diet chart:

They say healthy food leads to a healthier living, a healthy mind and a happier soul but nothing, absolutely nothing makes you happier than the cheese stretch your favorite pizza gives you and while you’re already drooling over the mere thought of it, hold back and wait for a Sunday. Now, we do not want you to lose your carbs and curves and we definitely do not want you to worry about getting in shape because honestly, it does not matter! What matters is your precious little self and how well you take care of it. Eat healthy so you fall sick less often, miss fewer parties and are allowed street food by your doctor.

Don’t remain at home:

Does your life feel like it’s on loop? If you have the same favorite months and the same places to hang out at since 2013, then stop right now. Try newer things and fresher places. Explore your hometown before going on your third trip to Goa. How awful is it to spend your entire life in one place, not knowing where to spot the cutest of stray cats and dogs in it? Hunt for a new hangout place with your amigos and plan a mini outstation trip every month. For your impromptu wanderlust which you always shrug off, try exploring your city and the surrounding areas. There’s a high possibility that you might just find a new favourite spot to watch the night sky, a stranded little beach or a thing as little as your new favourite vada pav stall. Devise atleast one successful trip the coming year while not forgetting your extempore getaways.

Do not restrict yourself:

Now whoever came up with the phrase “Jack of all trades and master of none” did not know that variety is the spice of life. We know how much you love football and how you can’t stop thinking about a code you started developing but have you tried trekking into the wilderness or salsa? You might just hit the home run thinking of a business idea you only thought would pop up in an imbecile’s brain. You may not cook as well as your mom or sing as well as Beyoncé, but what’s the harm in trying? Learn things that have always fascinated you. Maybe a new language be it French or Braille, maybe a new instrument be it a guitar or a sitar, we leave that to you. In all this extravaganza of learning new things, do not forget that you have that new Call of Duty game to complete or that New York Times bestseller which everyone has read except you

Do not hide:

We live in an age where fitting in is considered more important than standing out. We have either given in to societal pressures or given up on our families. Work on your existing relationships but do not think before cutting off toxic people from your life. Doing favours in order to strengthen a bond is acceptable but you know that you have to stop once they start crushing you under a pile of favours gradually. Learn to refuse and reject. Accept yourself and others will follow. Remember that your sexual preferences are yours and yours alone, what others think about them does not matter. In a wider perspective no one really cares if you love a guy or a girl or are inclined towards both irrespective of your gender. If you recognize mental illness or anxiety issues within yourself, do not neglect them. Seek professional help if necessary. Work on your EQ. “I could work on my low self-esteem but, I don’t think I can.” The biggest problem in the world is the one you are facing, help yourself.

But in the end, remember;

Good resolutions are simply checks that men draw on a bank where they have no account – Oscar Wilde
