ICE Cup

Posted on March 19, 2022 By Team SPark

For the first time, due to the influx of new branches in the first years, ESA and ACSES in collaboration with IIC conducted the ICE cup for the branches IT, ETRX, Data Science, and AI/ML. On the 12th of February, the two competitions conducted were Volleyball and Football while cricket was conducted on 13th February. The whole event was conducted smoothly, following all the COVID protocols.

CRICKET:

The competition was conducted on the 13th of February at UMRB Turf, Andheri sports complex. A total of ten teams from IT, Data Science, AI-ML, and ETRX branches actively took part in the competition.

Every team needed to have at least one girl on it to be able to participate. The rules included the batsman being out when the ball touched the top of the net, bowling to be underarm, every female player to be given an over to be bowled, and other basic cricket rules.

The competition began with the adrenaline-fueled enthusiasm of the players. The first match was held between A1( SE IT ) and A2( SE ETRX). The competition started grabbing the attention of the audience as it got close to the semi finale. All the members and players showed heartwarming responses.

The teams SE ETRX and BE IT were declared joint winners due to the time constraint.

FOOTBALL:

With the Champions League knockout games around the corner, the enthusiasm of the world football fans has never been higher. We got to see a similar display of competitiveness and nail-biting matches in I.C.E cup football which was conducted on the 12th of February at the Andheri Sports Complex turf.

The scorching sunshine didn’t seem to deter the participants from giving it their best that day. A total of 10 teams battled it out to win the tournament and bring glory to their respective branch. Each team played a total of two matches in the group stage, against the teams in their respective groups. The team which finished first in every group qualified for the semi-finals.

Of the three teams finishing second in each group, one was eliminated based on their performance. The other two had to play a knockout quarter-final game to decide the fourth semi-finalist. The quarter-final was won by FE AIML in a penalty shootout after a close 1-1 draw against TE ETRX. The two semi-final games were followed by an exhilarating final. Long-range goals, amazing team play, penalty shootouts… this tournament had it all.

Two well-deserving teams played the finals, and the experienced TE IT went on to win the tournament in an adrenaline-fueled match against SE ETRX.

VOLLEYBALL:

At 7:3o am on the 12th of February, six volleyball teams comprising of SPIT students arrived at the SPCE volleyball court for the I.C.E cup volleyball tournament. The competition was intense and the teams had their eyes set on the prize. The teams were divided into two groups, A and B for the league matches. Four teams(top two from each group) qualified for the semi-finals, followed by the final.

Each team had six players on the field, one of them needing a girl compulsorily. The girls played exceptionally well to propel their team towards victory. All teams confidently displayed their skills and most importantly, enjoyed themselves. The audience was immersed in the games as well and cheered the teams to put in their best performance. Two well-deserving teams reached the finals. TE IT was really impressive and went on to win the tournament by defeating SE ETRX in the final.
