The IEEE club and FACE club of Sardar Patel Institute Of Technology organised an event called ‘App it Up’. The event was divided into two phases with the first phase being a webinar on mobile application which was scheduled on 6th September, 2020. They invited Mr Sudarshan Bhatt who is currently working as an android developer (IT Analyst) at TCS, India to address the attendees.
He began with introducing himself and gave a brief introduction of the India’s app market calling it the fastest growing in the world in both IOS and Android. There was set of questions prepared by the organization team for the speaker. On being asked about the novel technologies introduced in the world of app development he spoke about flutter and React Native which are the current booming cross-platform tools for app development. He gave an in depth analysis of both and cleared the cloud of uncertainty surrounding both as they were relatively new in the market.
He also advised the aspiring app developers to stay abreast of top trends in mobile app development by reading articles and blogs. He also spoke about the importance of the programming language Java in order to master android app development and suggested beginners in this field to learn java and download a software called android studio to commence their learning journey. On being asked about the entire process of developing an app from scratch he spoke about the 3 fundamental steps that is designing the app building the app and publishing the mobile app. He also inspired the aspirants to keep exploring and make the most of the thriving mobile app ecosystem in India by honing their skills in mobile app development.
The second phase of app it up included building an app on the given problem statements. It was judged by Chinmay Rane and the mentors to guide the candidates were Pranjal Chaudhari, Aman Agarwal, Abhishek Gupta. The teams allowed were suppose to include one-two people. There were 32 problem statements which were released on 15th September and every team had to select one topic of their choice and design an app which acts as a feasible solution of the same. There were a set of mentors assigned who would supervise he participating teams and provide them with his/her valuable feedback and the deadline for submission was on 4th October.
There were presentation rounds in the end where every team described the functionality of their app and how well the problem proposed was solved. Due to a large number of participating teams the judges who belonged from a technical side of the corporate space had a difficult time shortlisting the winners. They were impressed by the kind of innovation and knowledge of various technologies that every team had displayed. Finally Prajwal was crowned champion of the event, the first runner up postition was bagged by Prashant Singh and Rishabh Jain. There was a tie for the second runner up between Divyaratna Bhanse and Siddhesh Nalawade.
“The event was a great platform for budding app developers to think out of the box to propose viable solutions through an app designed by them . The judges were surprised to see the kind of potential these future engineers who haven’t even stepped in the corporate space displayed. ” said Naitik Jain, member of organizing committee.
