IEEE Orientation

Today, Engineering is one of the most rewarding professions with immense opportunities for the development of an individual and society as a whole. But, only theoretical and limited practical knowledge in the field are definitely not adequate to establish oneself as a leader in this extremely competitive industry. This is where the SPIT division of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) stepped in and delivered an eye opening presentation to the FEs.

The IEEE SPIT Orientation was held on the 6th of September in room no. 008. The much awaited event commenced with the Chairperson of IEEE SPIT, Kamini Budke, addressing the students as well as the faculty mentors present at the event, briefing them about the history, framework, its rules and regulations and the goals and achievements of the institute in over 50 years of it’s successful existence. The various alumni of the committee who are now working for top corporates in their respective fields were also introduced to give the FEs a fair idea about the impact of the organization.

The Vice Chairperson of the committee, Pooja Firke, then gave the students a brief rundown of the various events which are going to be held throughout the current academic year.

The dais was then handed over to the chairperson of the Women In Engineering (WIE) branch of the IEEE, Siddhi Korad, who pointed out the fact that women make up only 11% of the engineering workforce and they must be motivated to take up the field. WIE is an organisation that stood to voice the female population of an engineering college, today is pioneering with success.

The stage was finally taken over by the faculty mentor for the committee, who is also the Student chair for IEEE-Mumbai section, Professor K.T. Talele. Having had 24 years of teaching experience, sir shared his expertise with the FE’s.“Learning happens when you interact, interactions happen with the avail of opportunities, opportunities present themselves when you are part of a community.” said Talele sir. He elaborated on the importance of the presenting yourself as a part of society. The importance of developing your skills, over time to contribute to the betterment of society.“Our community is like an ocean, abundant in resources, full of energy, all that is required is the initiative to avail those resources.” sir concluded. Post which Ambavde sir gave his valueable inputs on the functionality of IEEE and gave his best wishes for their future endeavors.

Thus ended the orientation IEEE-WIE had organized for the FE’s, initiating them to take a step forward, into their futures.
