We often only realize how privileged we are when we see the daily struggles of the less fortunate. The second week of October saw the Rotaract Committee of SPIT bring forth its initiative, the Joy of Giving Week. It gave the students of SPIT an opportunity to reach out to people in need, through small but impactful means.
T-Shirt Painting
Rotaract Club opened in colourful fashion with the first event for the week, T-shirt painting. A huge crowd of students gathered in the Quadrangle during their lunch break to take part in this fun filled event. The enthusiasm shown by them was exceptional. Teams of five gathered as the members of the Rotaract Club gave each group clothes and some paints to let their imagination run wild. A cheerful atmosphere encompassed the quadrangle as the plain white shirts put on some new, vivid hues. The event was a huge success, a fulfilling activity for the participants. The vibrant T-shirts that resulted from the activity went to a girl’s orphanage, Angel’s Nest.
talk BY A SOCIAL ACTIVIST
On 10th October, the members of the Rotaract club organized a talk by a renowned social activist Mr. Chinu Kwatra. Mr. Kwatra is the founder of the projects Beach warriors, spearheading a massive clean up drive at Dadar beach. He has also founded Roti Ghar, which provides healthy meals to underprivileged women and children. Being World Mental Health day, he highlighted the importance of the mental well being of individuals, especially children. He said, “As humans, it is our responsibility to clean the waste around us because we are the ones who have generated the same.” He inspired the attendees to do their bit towards society, and contribute to a cleaner and brighter future.
FOOD DONATION DRIVE
The students of SPIT then took part with zest in a food donation drive, held in collaboration with Roti Bank . Roti Bank is an NGO that works all over India to provide food to the poor. Over 100kgs of wheat, rice and tur daal were collected.
The events of the week brought a sense of fulfilment to all SPITians, and rightly epitomized the spirit of RC SPIT. “We were thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation from the students. We look forward to organizing similar events in the future and keep the Rotaract flame burning !,” said Siddhesh Jadhav, Secretary, RC-SPIT.
