After another eventful year for the Rotaract committee of SPIT, which saw many innovative ideas come to fruition, it was time for induction of the next wave of torch bearers of humanitarian causes. The ceremony was held in room 008, on the 23rd of August, with over 60 attendees. Two distinguished figures in the Rotaract community graced the occasion : young and accomplished Rotaractor Yash Shah as chief guest, and former President of the Rotary club of Juhu, Sumana Menon, as guest of honour. The chief guest lit the lamp to commence the event, succeeding which the dignitaries, the immediate past President Mohammed Umair Modak, and the incoming President, Urvee Chaudhari, were felicitated.
Rtr.Umair Modak, the outgoing President, was commended for his role and accorded with a medal. He proceeded to initiate the meeting, which fittingly began with the national anthem. The guests then acknowledged and honoured the previous year’s committee for their exemplary work.
Rtr. Siddhesh Jadhav made his secretarial speech. The audience then lent their ears to Umair’s outgoing speech, as he handed over his pedestal, along with the Rotaract charter, gavel and gong to Urvee Chaudhari. In her acceptance speech, Urvee outlined the theme of the committee for the year, “She’s not afraid.” Recognizing the importance of women; for their valuable roles in spheres both domestic and outside, RC SPIT seeks to touch upon the issues faced by the daughters of the nation, and work towards their empowerment through its activities. These events will add to the already impressive line up of past initiatives like T-shirt painting, blood donation drive and SPIT charity Marathon.
The occasion carried forward to the pinning ceremony of the new committee. The guests of honour took to the stage, emphasising on the indispensable role of the Rotaract Committee in SPIT and beyond. To conclude, Vice President Vedant Sapte made the vote of thanks, and newly elected President Urvee adjourned the meeting for the very first time. RC SPIT continues to impress in its resolve to further social causes, setting the benchmark for the students of the college.
