They say, “Life is more fun if you play games,” and TechRace 2018 was nothing if not fun. When you combine the excitement to travel and discover with the need to think laterally, what you get is half a day of scavenging across the city in search of clues and working them out to unravel successive locations, setting on a trail that would take you to places you wouldn’t have gone to.
The day started with over three hundred participants gathering at the SPIT quadrangle, unable to contain their excitement. The hunt was heralded by an enthralling performance by the college band, which lifted the spirits dampened (pun intended) due to unexpected rains. This was followed by the explanation of rules and serving of food. One could taste the excitement in the air the minute the first clue was revealed.
The trail initially diverged into two different routes that then merged into one another. Working up their ‘little grey cells’, the participants found themselves following a path that took them from the mazes of Andheri to the Hanging Gardens of Malabar Hills, totalling fifteen clues. The competition this year was fiercer than ever, thanks to the amazing TechRace app. It provided the participants with a slew of power moves-among them allowing contestants to slow the rival teams ahead of them, unlocking further clues, and several Jackpot questions.
After a long but exciting day of sleuthing around the city, winning, for some, was quite the cherry on the cake. Devansh Shah and Manav Khimani, who finished ahead of all the other teams, won a whopping ₹8000 plus vouchers. Ravi Agarwal and Varun Agnihotri stood second, with a cash prize of ₹6000 plus vouchers. Together, the winners won ₹1,00,000 worth of prizes. “It was a one of a kind thrilling adrenaline pumping experience. The clues made us think and the locations made us admire the city of Mumbai as a whole. The race was very well organised and in the end the deserving team won!”-Akshat Bhat, FE Comps, SPIT.
Not all treasure is silver and gold, however. The very thrill of the participants exploring the city with such vigour was reward enough for the organisers. “Organising TechRace was a dream come true. It wasn’t as easy as we expected. The response from all the participants was exceptional”, said Prathamesh Talekar, one of the organisers.
