“Udaan is one of the most anticipated cultural fests around the city and this year, it raised the bar. Right from fun events like Mehfil-E-Udaan to Casino, Udaan excelled in maintaining the fun and excitement of the participants and visitors alike. Surely, Udaan was amazing! “, Sanskruti Jaipuria, Vice-Chairperson, Team Udaan
Hogathon
A highly anticipated event, Hogathon delivered fun, frolic, and food to its participants. For the first round, eager students gathered to feast on a Dominos pizza and a glass of Coke. In the next round, things escalated to chips and a black forest pastry. Hilarity ensued as the use of hands was also disallowed. With triumphant frosting on their faces, the fastest 20 forged ahead.
The finale incorporated Mumbai’s theme with all-you-can-eat-Pav Bhaji. The contestants were given a time of 10 mins to eat as many pavs as they could. And they did not disappoint. In an intense face-off, Saurav Tiwari ate 14 pavs to emerge as the winner.
“Organising Hogathon was a really fun experience. The best part, undoubtedly, was watching the participants hog like crazy!” Lekha Sharma, Organiser.
A bonus round was also held, sponsored by Zinq, where the top 5 contenders attempted to finish a gallon of ice cream in 8 minutes.
Fifa-Auction
Another valuable addition to the Fun Events was the FIFA Auction wherein the participants got the unique experience of bidding for their favorite football teams and their players who are big names in the world of the football and tested their knowledge about football, financial and management skills.
With several restrictions accompanied by miscellaneous clues and concepts like the right to match card, the event was appreciated by all the participants. The highest rated team won the game. It was a close call between the top 2, but FE IT won by one point over the team from SE Electronics.
“Overall the event was a great success. All the participants competed enthusiastically and gave their very best to win.” –Mandar Surve, Organiser
Lan-Gaming
Like all delightful fests, Udaan incorporated LAN Gaming in its selection of fun events. The blacked-out lab had turned into a gamer’s paradise.
Whether it was engrossing themselves in scoring goals in FIFA 18 or completing objectives in Counter-Strike, knocking out their opponents in WWE or strategizing in Mini-Militia, the participants showed tactfulness and also didn’t fail to have fun. The highlight of the event was Virtual Reality gaming with PS4 VR and HTC VIVE. It proved to be a success for the organizers and a cherished experience for the participants.
“Thrillingly exciting but definitely exhausting. Hands down the most popular and lively event one could organize. LAN gaming is joie de vivre!” –Saurav Malve, Organiser.
Human Foosball & More
Another year of UDAAN hosted the Human Foosball and instead of plastic figurines scoring goals, there were actual players scoring goals for their team.
Human Foosball wasn’t the only game which was played, there were miscellaneous short-games added to this event. This year, the organizers introduced dizzy games like Dizzy Penalty and Dizzy Race in which the player had to spin around a ball for 14 turns and then carry on with their game. It was quite well-received by the participants as repeated entries were made for this game. The Winning Team won a cash prize of ₹2000.
“The Appreciation from the Participants was the most delightful thing about this event. Everyone enjoyed playing these games which made organizing this event totally worthwhile.”-Poojan Thakuria, Organiser.
Rhythmic Bingo
Everything’s better with a little music. In the first-ever meld of bingo with Bollywood music, Rhythmic bingo lit up Udaan like Marine Drive does Mumbai at night.
Ranging from jumbled up lyrics to the verses being encoded in WhatsApp emojis with several twists and turns, the game made its players jump through all the hoops. It was nothing short of amusing for the contestants as well as the organizers.
Anukrit Jain won the full house receiving up to 4k in prizes.
“It was a lot of fun. We had browsed through more than 100 songs to set up this event. The positive reply of the audience was all worth it.” Parth Dedhia, Organiser.
Casino
The classroom of First Year Computers was transformed to give the audience an enthralling experience with Udaan hosting its own version of a casino. Players had to put on their best poker faces and test their fortunes in an event that demanded strategy and calculated thinking. Texas hold ’em Poker, Blackjack and Teen Patti were among the variety of games for the participants to indulge the gambler within them. The event organizers ensured that those unfamiliar with card games were not disappointed, with mini-games like “7 up-7 Down” to pique their interest.
Somil Jain, a participant said, “The rounds in poker were full of unexpected hands. It was quite enthralling playing with some experienced players who made the game all the more interesting”.
Mehfil-E-Udaan
“The participants loved the event and the response was great”, beamed Shriniket Vichare, Organizer.
Udaan gave its attendees an opportunity to unleash the pop star within them, with its very own Karaoke event Mehfil-E-Udaan. Participants could choose from a wide variety of songs, be it Bollywood melodies or English hits. There was the option to sing solo, team up with friends for a duet or a group performance. Contestants got to perform renditions of their favorite songs and were gifted food vouchers for their efforts. The event witnessed participation from both students as well as faculty.
“Udaan 2018, just a couple of words but it came and blew our minds and left us astounded. The team showed their potential. The team showed their passion. The team made way for completing this Dream. Udaan was not just an individual, it was us, it was Sardar Patel Institute of Technology .”, Divit Karmiani, Cultural Secretary, Student Council 2017-18.
