SILENT DISCO
Excitement was in the air as the first poster of Mumbai’s largest silent disco was unleashed on the 24th January 2018. The event held at the Sardar Patel Institute of Technology, on the 16th February 2018 at 8 pm. Silent disco, a concept still esoteric among most of the netizens, was scheduled to be held at the SPIT Quadrangle as a part of the annual cultural fest-UDAAN.
An environmental friendly event, silent disco can be described as an event where people dance to music listened to, on headphones, rather than using a speaker system, music is broadcast via a radio transmitter with the signal being picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants. “It’s going to be a great experience playing at Mumbai’s largest silent disco. Waiting for the gig eagerly” said Manav Sanghavi, one of the artists at the event.
A wide range of choices were offered to the participants based on their taste in music. Ranging from Bollywood beats played by popular artists including Sam Mayekar, DAZ TRK, and TRCM, to the tunes of electronic dance music performed by Assembled noise, PRIMU5 and DRV, the quadrangle witnessed a packed floor with each one dancing to the beats. The synth wave music put into action by the artist AVIAT was the cherry on top.
Besides students, some members of the faculty were also seen shaking a leg.
“It was altogether a unique evening dancing to the music without disturbing anyone. Each one of us enjoyed to the fullest and would look forward to the event next year”, said Chetna Sharma, one of the participants present. Dancing alone is fun, but wouldn’t it be better if you had a partner to dance with, well SPITians had that opportunity with the Prom night.
