SCOPE

The academic year started with a bang as France conquered the world, the second-year students of S.P.I.T. found themselves at a crossroads, a branching network of boulevards each different than the other. A new system of varied courses, namely ‘Skill Certification for Outcome-based Professional Education’ (SCOPE), was first introduced in the year 2017, undergoing major course upheavals and major changes in 2018.

SCOPE is a means to offer the students an extra course track of their preference, liking and inclination. Firms and companies of fame have subsided the rates of the courses which generally demand high fees in the world outside.

In addition to the students of SPIT, the SCOPE courses were open to candidates outside of the college, as the institution believes that college should not be an obstacle between a student and the knowledge he wants to gains.

The prestigious organization Ernst and Young(E and Y) presents a high-priced and valuable finance based track, a series of topics ranging from advanced accounting to banking and modelling.

EBTS provides a course introducing the newly trending SAP program, an enticing collection of technical, functional and programming subjects related to SAP.

The reputed SPJIMR does not lack behind in the race to offer the best to the aspiring students, and gives them a chance to peek into the vast and interesting world of advanced management which includes HR, marketing skill development and IT business implementation.

Fractal Analytics brings in what was the most opted course of this year’s track set. With the whole second-year section talking about it, with content like data analytics and engineering, also with a glimpse of machine learning.

The Electronics Engineering core track, the vast but engrossing embedded systems section, with the UK based SafeTTy Systems being handed the reins. It consists of various topics related to Embedded C and Time-Triggered applications amongst many others, making it a strong option for the Electronics and EXTC branches.

The disciples of Mr Robot do not fall short in their choices, as a complete coding track is available, brought by SCTPL. It will assist the students with an array of languages such as Java, JavaScript and jQuery, also topics like DevOps and Angular6.

The institute itself has in store a total of four tracks, two of them which happen to be Electronic core, vis-a-vis VLSI Design and Advanced Instrumentation (by Indwell Automation). The EXTC core track, Communication Technologies, has also been an attraction as well as the Technopreneur track by SP-TBI which cleverly merges technology and entrepreneurship.

The aforementioned, the data analysis track offered by Fractal Analytics was the first preference for numerous students. Due to a limited number of seats available and a large pool of applicants, it was decided upon by the college authorities in consensus with Fractal Analytics that an aptitude test will be taken in order to shortlist a total of 40 candidates out of 105. Thus, a one-hour online aptitude test consisting of sections like logical reasoning, verbal ability and data analysis was held. Nervousness was in the air as the results were to be declared the next day

“Data analysis is something I wish to pursue for my masters, and I hope I get a seat” said Sahil Gharat, a second-year Electronics Engineering student.

The schedules of all the courses are varied, some have been decided upon to take place on weekdays after the college hours while others like Fractal Analytics have been scheduled for weekends, with professors set to fly from Bangalore.

All in all, the students are satisfied with the courses which they opted for, some have commenced while some are still yet to.
