FE Induction

Posted on August 26, 2019 By Team SPark

The first few days of college life are extremely polarizing. While some find them to be the time of their lives, some end up dreading the very idea of studying engineering. To make things worse, naive first years are thrown into a new world filled with lectures that last forever and exams which destroy all their motivation to change the world. It is thus important that everyone has a delightful start to engineering life so that the forthcoming semesters are filled with success and enjoyment. SPIT held an extensive induction program for the First Year students to make sure they are ready to take on the challenge that is engineering.

The jam-packed schedule began with the orientation and featured talks by the Principal and HODs of different departments who motivated the students with their wise words. Regular lectures commenced thereafter which were interrupted by numerous events designed to help students adjust to the harsh environment of an engineering college. These included inspiring talks by esteemed lecturers who sought to teach students important life skills and help maximize their potential using effective time management.

The Dean of Academics and Student Affairs, the College Counsellor, the Student Council, and other faculty members engaged with the students and introduced them to various aspects of the institute. An ice breaker session was also held which allowed students from different classes to socialize and form important friendships. Various workshops such as Proficiency Sessions and a Calculator Workshop were held to impart basic knowledge about the necessary tools used in engineering. The students were also taken on a Campus tour to familiarize themselves with the different parts of the Bhavan’s campus, surrounded by beautiful gardens and lakes to help students relax and connect with their inner self.

To build a rapport with the freshers, the Student Council also organized an induction program to put forth the plethora of opportunities provided by various committees in the college, which will help them harness their talents and don essential skills required for holistic development. Be it sports, performing arts, debates, entrepreneurship, there’s room for everyone. The event progressed with respective committee members presenting their success stories and proposed plan of action for the present year.

IEEE, first to take the stage, comes with a motto of “advancing innovation and technology for the benefit of humanity”, followed by WIE; an offshoot of IEEE established for the promotion of women in engineering. With their theme for the year: “Slow the Flow”, the Rotaract Club of SPIT put forth their noble work, aimed at spreading goodwill in the society.

While the Coding Club aims at providing useful insights about competitive coding, hackathons, etc., thus making one technically sound. Mudra, the Cultural Committee provides a platform for showcasing one’s music and dancing skills. The Sports Committee also has various activities planned to keep sports enthusiasts engaged all through the year.

E-Cell provides an environment to foster an entrepreneurial spirit among the students and numerous opportunities to shape the most creative and practical ideas while developing important skills. “Oculus”, the techno-cultural fest of SPIT, was the highlight of the evening as this kaleidoscope of memories and frolic is the heart-beat of every individual.

Lastly, the very source which brings to you this account, Spark is a place that welcomes those who are passionate about writing, photography and creatives.

“The first few days of college were super fun. The lecturers who engaged with us made sure the sessions were enjoyable and at the same time we got to learn a lot of new things ”, said Garima, a student from FE EXTC.

The energy that reverberated from the first years indicated their enthusiasm to make the most out of the next four years . This not only marked the successful completion of this initiative but also the beginning of an exciting, new adventure for the freshers.
