On the auspicious evening of October 19, 2023, the Student Council at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology hosted a memorable cultural event that celebrated the spirit of unity, culture, and diversity. Approximately 1,000 students from every department and each academic year enthusiastically participated in the Garba night . The event was a grand success, featuring vibrant performances, lively music, and a sense of togetherness that was truly remarkable.
The purpose behind organising Garba lies in the roots of Indian culture. Garba nights are organized as a way to celebrate and pay tribute to the goddess Durga during Navratri. Navratri, which translates to “nine nights,” is a Hindu festival dedicated to the divine feminine energy. It involves the worship of different forms of the goddess Durga over nine nights, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil. The Garba dance, performed during Navratri, is a form of devotion and a means of seeking the blessings of the goddess for strength, prosperity, and protection.
The grand celebration commenced with a captivating image of Goddess Durga displayed on a screen, setting a spiritual and devotional tone for the evening. The festivities were ignited by Falguni Pathak’s vibrant Gujarati songs, filling the air with excitement and anticipation. Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, students formed close-knit friend groups, reflecting the diverse and tight community spirit at Sardar Patel Institute of Technology.
Throughout the event, the audience was treated to a series of electrifying dance performances, showcasing the remarkable talents and enthusiasm of the students. A variety of refreshing beverages kept everyone energized and added to the overall enjoyment. As the clock struck 9 PM, the crowd’s excitement reached new heights with the timeless Garba tunes, luring more students to the dance floor. Notably, S.P.I.T. Principal B.N. Chaudhari not only graced the event with his presence but also displayed his signature dance moves, infusing boundless energy and enthusiasm into the student crowd, who thoroughly relished his participation. The eclectic music selection, ranging from the DJ’s lively beats to Punjabi, Marathi, and regional songs, catered to all musical tastes. The evening culminated with a patriotic finale, resonating with the rendition of the iconic song, “Maa Tujhe Salaam… Vande Mataram,” evoking a profound sense of national pride and unity.
After engaging in a spirited and lively Garba performance alongside their colleagues, students exhibited a mixture of exhaustion and elation. The energetic dance, pulsating beats, and vibrant camaraderie left them physically drained yet emotionally fulfilled, as they shared this joyful cultural experience with their peers.
The garba night brought together the student community in a celebration of culture, friendship, and patriotism. The event’s lively atmosphere, diverse performances, and the enthusiastic involvement of College Principal B.N. Chaudhari made it a night to remember, reinforcing the spirit of unity and celebration among the students.
