IEEE Aarambh

The folks at IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) welcomed the yet-to-blossom buds, the FYs with their exciting plethora of events, collectively known as IEEE Aarambh. The event was kick-started on 9th of August, a terrific Thursday for all the students present.

Aarambh’s arrangements were down by the hard-working team of IEEE. All the events were set to start on 5 PM, owing to the First Year college hours which stretched till 4 PM.

Hogathon, an event where there are no winners and losers, just contenders who gorge on the delicious food in front of them. This year’s Hogathon enticed the students with the mouthwatering momos as Round 1, savoury noodles for the winners of Round 1 and lastly the palatable pizzas for the ultimate round. The goal was to eat faster than your competitors and finish first.

As people hogged around, the inner maestros in the FYs were singing as Geet Geek, a ‘singing and dancing’ based event, commenced contemporarily. The contestants participated in groups of 3 with a series of challenging sub-events which consisted of guessing songs based on tunes, lyrics, etc. One sub-event even brought dancing to the fray, where the players had to guess the song judging from the moves their teammates performed. The event, managed by Sameeran Karpe and Pooja Firke, enforced the fraternity and the friendliness amongst the newcomers and strengthened the ever-burning spirit of the institute.

The students had to wager too, for a game of fate was arranged by the Secretary of IEEE Core Committee of SPIT, Sameeran Karpe. This game had the aspirants stake a small amount of money, and were given the chance to increase it cumulatively as they won the rounds. Solely based on luck, the player could draw out from the game and enjoy the sum he or she earned, or lose it all if they lost even once. The spectators saw their buddies squealing with joy as they won more and more, and growl as they lost, all in an environment of fun and energy.

The students ran across the too, a promising search for clues along with a rigorous rivalry amongst peers, fueled with the cash prize of 500 Rs. The IEEE Sub-committee stood at checkpoints, holding clues and snippets of riddles for those geniuses who cracked the previous ones. Akash Junnarkar, one of the Sub-committee members from SE-ETRX said, “The treasure hunt was not only played by the FYs but also by us, as we helped them with the clues and shared the mirth amongst each other. I’m looking forward to organise more events in the bright future ahead”.

The events continued on 10th of August as many events had rounds for the winners. The Friday saw FYs in a more invigorating mood as the weekend was up for them to relax after the quick first week of the college. Hogathon conducted the remaining rounds and Geet Geek had the top teams battling with their voices and moves. Cash prizes were awarded to the winners of Geet Geek and Hogathon. Omkar Varudkar, a FY from FY-ETRX said, “We First Years were overwhelmed by the response of our seniors and their dedication to the event. We really feel proud of being a part of Aarambh and S.P.I.T. and hope such events are conducted more and more in the semesters to come.”
