S.P.I.T Hackathon 2020

CSI-SPIT, in association with the Student Council organised the S.P.I.T Hackathon on the 1st and 2nd of February 2020, as a pre-event of Oculus, the institute’s techno-cultural fest.

The event was inaugurated in the SPJIMR auditorium by the principal of SPIT, Dr. Y.S. Rao. Others present included Mr. Vinod Sikka, Prof. Kailas Devadkar , Mr. Mustafa Sheikh and Ms. Priyanka Allen. They all interacted with the audience present and left them motivated and eager to learn more. The technical secretary, Shreya Oak, and Anish Dixit, the Chair Person of CSI-SPIT introduced the sponsors and then explained the rules of the Hackathon, thus concluding the inauguration ceremony.

The Hackathon witnessed around 35 teams and 140 students from colleges across the country. The competition kick-started with coding and went on for the next 24 hours.
Refreshments and accommodation were provided for all the participants. A gaming lounge was also established for recreational purposes. T-shirts, as well as stickers, were distributed to the participants by the volunteers present. There were also detailed mentoring rounds with every team getting 3 interaction rounds with patronage tutors and also from past Smart India Hackathon winners. Experts from the companies also guided the students. The final top 10 teams were chosen on the second day of the hackathon, i.e. 2nd February.. They had to pitch their products to a panel of judges with a dedicated question and answer session for each team.


Dr.Y.S.Rao, Principal of S.P.I.T, and the judges of the hackathon, experts from Sequretek, Mr. Nishant Kumar from Zubi.io and Ms.Ruchi Gaur from Scholr embarked the most awaited closing ceremony after the very lanky and intense twenty four hours. The 3rd place was bagged by the Team BackPropG-2+2 from Sardar Patel Institute of Technology. They received a cash prize of Rs.8000, credits worth 2500$ from Crowdera and CodingBlocks T Shirts. Team Majestico from SIES, Navi Mumbai secured the second place receiving a cash prize of Rs.12000 with a memorable trophy and credits worth 2500$ from Crowdera and CodingBlocks T Shirts. The winning team of S.P.I.T. Hackathon 2020 was team KEDS from Fr. Conceicao Rodrigues College of Engineering, Mumbai. They took home a cash prize of Rs. 20000, credits worth 7500$ from Crowdera, CodingBlocks T Shirts as well as the grand trophy.
The event was successful in all aspects and was a memorable one.
