Toons for Teens and Above

“Early morning cartoons” is the children equivalent of 7AM office. It was almost a criminal offence to miss those early morning toons back in the days. So what makes the scenario any different now? Alongside responsibilities and workload, the standards of animated story telling have risen from “Goofy” to “Homer Simpson” (You’ll get what we are talking about later). If you really miss being a child and children’s cartoons no longer give you your golden-era vibes then here’s a list of the top 5 cartoons specifically made for teens and adults!

  1. The Simpsons:

We start off with one of the oldest cartoons, that dates back to 1989. Still running to this day, the series is basically a jibing and sarcastic portrayal of a middle class US based family. The storyline takes place in a fictional town called “Springfield” which has a knack for falling into all sorts of trouble in the most creative of ways, and is always centered around the Simpson family.

2. Family Guy:

Started in 1999 for FOX studios, this cartoon reached its peak and has never gone down since. The story revolves around the “Griffin Family” living in the fictional city of Quohog ,Rhode Island. Each episode contains hilarious cut gags that take a shot at American culture. The cartoon, although conceptually very similar to Simpsons, has very peculiar aspects such as a diabolical, genius, talking infant, and a human-like dog! It’s these crazy things that draw the attention of young adults.

3. South Park:

Ever wanted to watch a sitcom in animation? Well here is your ticket! South Park is an American animated cartoon show with 16 seasons worth of content designed solely for mature audiences. The show consists of four young boys that go on bizarre adventures in a small Colorado town. This cartoon is the perfect blend of satire, attack on society, and some inappropriate elements only for the purposes of comedy. One of the key features of this show is the highly two dimensional puppet-like character of the animation .If you’re looking for some trouble alongside fun, this is the cartoon for you!

4. BoJack Horseman :

A Netflix original cartoon series that has proven itself to be ridiculously funny and is on everyone’s google searches now days. The story of this breathtaking cartoon revolves around anthropomorphic animals along with a group of people living in Los Angeles. The show, despite its hilarious characters, seems to attack various emotions somewhere along the lines of despair, crumbling depression, etc. The sense of realism depicted by the ridiculous concept of talking animals is hilarious as well as eerie. If you are into that genre of comedy then this is THE show for you!

5. Rick and Morty:

This recommendation happens to lie at the end of this list simply because the best must always be saved for the end. A brilliant sci-fi animated series that circles around a beautifully chaotic Grandfather- grandson relationship between Rick and Morty respectively. The intergalactic, inter-dimensional misadventures of the two protagonists is what makes this show so very different from the others. It is a mix of all genres if we think about the way it targets society, culture, media, science and everything in between in a hilarious and sarcastic way. All in all it is a mind blowing series. “Interdimensional Cable TV” is one of the best features of the show and an absolute crowd favorite. The fact that the episodes are fueled by total randomness and chaos is why they can never run out of material.

You might not fit in your old clothes or on the tiny swings by the playground. You might be too old for Santa Claus or the tooth fairy. But you’re never too old for Cartoons.
